Susan Urshel and writer Amy Culbertson traveled across
the state to identify more than 70 public gardens worth
stopping for — or planning a trip around.

Authors:
Amy Culbertson is an Austin-based journalist, editor and writer who
has written about travel, food, entertainment and art for numerous
publications. Her 40-year newspaper career included positions at the
Houston Chronicle, the Cincinnati Post and the Detroit Free Press,
concluding with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where she was food editor
from 2003 to 2009. A native Texan, she’s been the principal editor for
Great Texas Line Press books since 2009
Susan Urshel has been a professional horticulturist for more than 40
years, working in private and public gardens in Virginia, North Carolina
and Texas. Retired as head horticulturist for a 9-acre private estate in
Fort Worth, she currently does horticultural consulting. Her memberships
include active roles with the Fort Worth Horticultural Study Group and the
Fort Worth Garden Club; she is also an active member of the Southern
Garden Historical Society and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
