WHAT IS STEAM?
STEAM fields are the areas of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
We talk a lot about the STEAM Garden, so the question we receive sometimes is what is STEAM versus STEM? STEAM is designed to integrate STEM subjects with arts subjects into various relevant education disciplines.
STEAM education blends STEM fields with the arts to create a more interdisciplinary approach to learning. These programs encourage students to think critically and innovatively by applying engineering and technology in creative and imaginative ways to address real-world challenges. By incorporating artistic principles of design and reasoning, STEAM strengthens students’ scientific and mathematical foundations while promoting inventive solutions.
These programs aim to teach students innovation, to think critically, and use engineering or technology in imaginative designs or creative approaches to real-world problems while building on students' mathematics and science base. STEAM programs add arts to STEM curriculum by drawing on reasoning and design principles, and encouraging creative solutions.
